Mary has been gardening all her life and is self taught. She is inspired by the writings of Beth Chatto, Christoper Lloyd, and Vita Sackville West.  Traveling to England to view and study famous gardens has contributed to her broad scope of understanding of how to design with plants. She believes that the right exposure and soil quality chooses the types of plants that should be grown together to truly flourish. To make a garden look like it was nature's hand that composed the picture is the idea that she aspires to.

Mary writes a gardening column for the City Island Current, titled  "In the Garden".
