Lucy's Meadow Garden
To my delight, Lucy called me up one day with the wish of having a meadow. The property bordering Eastchester Bay on City Island was a blank canvas. Lucy gave me free reign to design this garden from scratch. The soil here is light with a clay base in full blazing sun. Many plants were grown from seed as the varieties that were wanted were not commercially available. The meadow took off and has grown in stature and complexity over a 3 year period.
California Poppy.
Euphorbia characias "tasmanian tiger".
The Blank Canvas.
The garden laid out in waves to mimic the location on the bay.
Early spring, daffodil cedric morris with chinodoxa.
Deadheading the cosmos.
Yarrow and salvia.
We love umbellifers, yarrow, queen annes lace, and orlaya.
Peony somniferum poppy "Lilac".
Amaranth " Hot Biscuit" in a sumptuous shade of raw sienna for Autumn.
Teasel's and Pennisetum Hamlin.
For structure and accent the grass " Calamagrostis Karl Forester". We used 25 to great effect.
